Writtle Tennis Club | Re-Opening on Monday, 29th March

It’s almost t
ime to get back on court!  We are delighted that the club is able to reopen on Monday, 29th March.  We would ask you to read the updated club procedures and guidance available on the website, hereThe link takes you to the dedicated page on our website which you can always refer to - https://clubspark.lta.org.uk/writtletennisclub/Corona .

Your co-operation, in ensuring that you adhere to all of the guidance and procedures, is much appreciated.

Well, there is a lot of non-covid information to update you on, too...

Playing

We are delighted that the majority of tennis play can return, and we also have some exciting news!

Adult doubles social tennis sessions are returning in the same format on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. Please refer to the guidance as the booking system is still in place. We encourage everyone of all abilities to mix in playClick to learn about social tennis or refer to our website.

Adult Team Squad Sessions are returning. Please remember you need to be a full adult member and must be in a squad to be able to participate. Fingers crossed it won’t be long until regular league matches will be back on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Adult Singles Ladder – WTC are trialling SportchIt is a new club singles ladder through a simple and fun app on your phone. The concept of this ladder allows you to join at any point, play as much or as little as you want and take a break or leave when required.  It’s extremely flexible. Plus, it is now included in your WTC membership and doesn’t cost you a penny more! Further information will be emailed out separately. Please see this video.

We are really proud to offer all of the tennis that our members are asking us for!

Membership and Finances

All memberships will resume from the date of the club re-opening, 29th March 2021.

The committee has taken the opportunity to review the memberships on offer and will implement some amendments to the Off-Peak and Long-Distance memberships. This comes into effect for new members immediately. For existing members this comes into action from 1st July 2021. All members, to whom the changes apply, will be contacted directly by email.  The updated membership details can be viewed here.

Financially, the club is in a healthy and stable position, however, there has been some impact because of the periods of lockdown and having no income due to pausing everyone’s memberships.  The financial summary for the period 19/20 is available to view here.

Governance
Covid restrictions have meant that we have been unable to have an AGM for 2019/20.  We are planning to hold an in-person AGM in July this year, in line with the government’s road-map.  If things change, we will use an alternative method of holding the AGM.  As mentioned above, the financial summary is available to see here.

Court Project
The courts are looking wonderful in the spring sunshine and we can’t wait to hear the thwack of tennis balls there again.

There are a few minor elements of remedial work that need to take place.  Unfortunately, due to the air-temperature during winter, these have not been able to take place over lock-down.  The remedial works are expected to take place soon and will have a minimal impact on the availability of courts.

Buildings and Facilities
We have recently completed a club maintenance survey.  All items requiring attention, on the courts, the buildings and the remaining grounds, will be actioned as soon as possible.

Projects
As you will be aware, there is more work to do at the club following the completion of the court project.  Due to the financial implications of the Covid 19 pandemic, including the pausing of memberships, plans regarding the entrance and garden area have had to be scaled back.  The committee are hard at work to come up with revised plans and we appreciate your patience.

Events

We are raring to go with the club tournament!  As soon as it is clear that restrictions are to be eased such to allow the tournament to go ahead, we will be making the arrangements.
We are all making the most of this time to work off the rust!

Coaching
We are excited that coaching can also resume from 29th March.  For further information, please to go to www.writtletennisacademy.co.uk
Andy, the LTA's County Development Coach of the Year 2020, is running some Easter camps.  You can find out more, and book your child’s place, via the new WTA apps, the links for which are on the Writtle Tennis Academy website, above.

Communications
The club’s committee email (committee@writtletennisclub.comis overseen by the Secretary and the Chairman.
If you have any comment, complaint or compliment, please do send it in.  All communications will be discussed at our committee meetings, which are held in the first week of each month and we will respond to you as soon as possible, dependent on the nature of your email.

Other News

The committee were delighted to welcome Paul Diamond to the group, as our new Secretary. Thank you to Laurence Cox for his time in the role.  Laurence is remaining on committee and we are lucky to have him on board to complete the maintenance surveys.

We are also pleased to announce that Victoria Olley has taken over as our Fixtures Secretary. Although, perhaps not as pleased as George Sabiniak!   A huge thank you to George for his hard work in the role, particularly over the last, challenging year.

Well done if you have made it this far!  We look forward to seeing you back on court!
