Coaching

Writtle Tennis Academy is continuing to provide first class coaching to all of our members.

WTA can offer racket trials as well as racket services such as restringing and modifications. Other manufacturer rackets are available.

Having recently upgraded the Writtle Tennis Academy branding you need keep a watch out for Andy in his new set of wheels and new branding design!

Committee

Once committee meeting minutes are approved you can view the meeting minutes. The link to our google drive is on our website.

We always welcome any correspondence. However as our club has grown so has our mailbox! The mailbox is monitored on a periodic basis and we will endeavour to respond as soon as reasonably possible

Courts

We have recently made some investments in the club to improve the facilities for members. You may have already noticed the new benches, hooks and net measurers by each court.

We have invested in a brand new ball machine! This is huge improvement as this is lighter, more user friendly, will protect our courts and its on wheels :)

This will be operational from 1st April. On display next to the ball machine will be a poster with a QR code. Please scan this QR code with your smart phone (using your camera) and follow the link to sign the ball machine out for use.

A separate email will be going out to you providing you with further information and guidance.

Health & Safety

Our first aid box has been replenished and is routinely checked. However, it is all of our member's responsibility to inform committee if any items in the first aid box have been used. Just a quick email will be great!

John Wickens

Sadly, we recently said goodbye to one of our longest loyal members John Wickens, who had been a member of WTC for over 50 years.

John was a loyal member serving as a team player, captain and most likely on committee also.

Writtle Tennis Club came to life in May 1964 (with 4 grass courts!) and, as the club developed, our membership grew. During the 1970’s more new members joined including John. At that time the Essex Tennis League had 13 divisions and matches consisted of three long sets for each of three pairs. The same Writtle men’s team went up a division in three consecutive years! The squad consisted of Richard Smith, Chris Hibbitt, Brian Lockhart, Barry Lummis, Barry Linger, Roger Edwards, Tony Sach and John Wickens. The Ladies also entered the Essex League playing best of three sets, the same as the men. All matches were played at the weekend sometimes lasting five hours! Ladies home matches always ended up in the pavilion with a well-earned salad tea provided by the ladies themselves.

Rest in peace John. We will miss your zest for life and that wicked sense of humour.

The committee has gladly donated to John's charity of choice, the RSPCA.
