Week One: WTC Court Project Underway!

 

Week one of the WTC Tennis Court Project and what a week it has been!  It has been a story of deconstruction so far...


 Perimeter root barrier excavation has taken place:



The sloped area between the courts has been knocked down:


Drainage holes have been made and filled with gravel:



Edging stones have been removed:



Two grabber lorries of waste have been removed:

The courts at WTC - a before shot! A bit of background… WTC has been on a very successful path of improvement and growth, over the last few years. With an effective partnership with Writtle Tennis Academy, we have developed a successful programme, committed to growing our club and promoting the sport of Tennis.  ·         In January 2016 we had a total of 42 members  ·         In January 2018 we had grown to 110 members. 58 juniors and 52 adults               ·         In November 2018 we had grown to 164 members. 88 juniors and 76 adults   ·         In July 2020 we have nearly 200 members   Our mission is to grow tennis by making it relevant, accessible, welcoming and enjoyable.   Anyone can play; whatever their motivation or ability,...

Week 9: WTC Court Project

  Earlier in the week, the committee was delighted to receive an email enquiry from a member who has been missing the blog.  It is lovely to know that you are enjoying our posts – thank you! We haven’t updated for a few Fridays, as the newly laid courts have been curing, so there has not been much action to report. Things have been different this week, however, and there has been much going on around the periphery of the courts, with work advancing on our smart, updated fencing.  Please see the photos at the end of this post. We have been overwhelmed by the number of members who have made contact with us by email, phone and in person, regarding yesterday’s announcement about the need to change our court colours.  The majority of you have shared your sense of disappointment, a feeling that whole committee shares with you.  We are confident that the new courts will be contemporary and vibrant, and we are determined to get that pink in there somewhere...
